AMERICA250 Edition
America is turning 250 this year, and nobody celebrates it like we do!

We’ve hand picked some events, so you can build your perfect weekend.
Friday, July 3rd: A Day Worth Remembering
10am to 3pm | America 250 Celebration at Heritage Farm Museum and Village, Huntington, WV
Start your Friday at Heritage Farm Museum and Village in Huntington, where the America 250 celebration brings the founding era to life in a way a textbook never could. Revolutionary War reenactments, period-costumed volunteers from the DAR and Colonial Dames, quilt-based storytelling, and a reading and reenactment of George Washington's speech to his troops on July 9th, 1776 fill the day with living history. The wide-open grounds give kids room to explore while the adults soak in a genuine sense of what it meant to be alive at the birth of this country.
1pm | Firework Painting and Patriotic Necklace at the Highlands DOzeum, Ashland, KY
Just across the river in Ashland, the Highlands DOzeum is offering hands-on patriotic crafts for the whole family, including firework painting and patriotic necklace-making. The DOzeum is an interactive discovery center where "please don't touch" is never the rule, and these July 3rd activities are exactly the kind of thing the kids will want to take home and show off.
4pm to 9pm | Thunder over Greenup, Downtown Greenup, KY
Thunder over Greenup has been the annual fireworks event in Downtown Greenup for more than twelve years, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most-loved Fourth of July celebrations in the entire Tri-State region. Head downtown, grab a spot, and let the evening unfold.
5pm | Free Concert with Steve Free at the Highlands DOzeum, Ashland, KY
Back in Ashland, a free outdoor concert with Steve Free kicks off at 5pm at the Highlands DOzeum. Grab a blanket, bring the family, and enjoy a summer evening the way summer evenings are supposed to be spent.
7pm | 1776 with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center, Huntington, WV
This one is special.
The musical "1776," performed by the Huntington Symphony Orchestra and featuring Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris, takes the stage at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center on the eve of America's 250th birthday. The show follows the founding fathers as they fight for independence from the British Crown, and watching it on July 3rd, 2026, in a historic theater in the heart of Appalachia is as meaningful a way to mark the occasion as you will find anywhere in the country.
Tickets start at $33 and are available at keithalbee.com.
Insider Tip: Do not wait on tickets to "1776." This show, in this venue, on this particular night, is a once-in-a-generation experience, and the Keith-Albee does not have infinite seats. Book before the weekend starts. If it sells out before you check, it sold out for a reason.
10pm | Dawg Dazzle Fireworks, Harris Riverfront Park Huntington, WV
Dusk | Thunder over Greenup Fireworks in Greenup, KY
The night caps off with fireworks over downtown Huntington, part of the larger America 250 celebration lighting up the Tri-State sky on July 3rd. Stake out your spot along the riverfront early and settle in. This is a big one. You can also choose to make the trip to Greenup, Kentucky for their fireworks display in downtown Greenup.
Saturday, July 4th: Happy 250th, America
8am to 11am | Patriotic Pancakes at Central Park, Ashland, KY
Rise and shine. There is no better way to start the Fourth than pancakes in the park, and Ashland's annual patriotic breakfast at Central Park is a beloved community tradition. Come hungry, come in red, white, and blue, and come early.
9am to 11am | Patriotic Pancakes at the Greenup County KY Extension Office
Prefer a shorter drive or a second breakfast? Greenup County is also serving up patriotic pancakes at the KY Extension Office starting at 9am. Both events carry the same spirit: neighbors gathered together on the most American morning of the year.
11am to 3pm | Milton's Red, White, and Fun Day at Blenko Glass Company, Milton, WV
Blenko Glass is one of the most iconic American-made glass companies in the country, and their Red, White, and Fun Day celebration on July 4th is a chance to see artisans blow and shape molten glass into one-of-a-kind patriotic pieces right before your eyes. Blenko is located at 230 Blenko Glass Road in Milton, West Virginia, and the experience of watching skilled craftspeople work with hot glass is something you genuinely cannot get anywhere else. The gift shop offers handmade pieces to take home as a lasting reminder of the country's 250th birthday.
12pm to 4pm | Ice Cream Social at the McConnell House, Greenup, KY
The McConnell House is one of the oldest standing homes in the Tri-State area, and on the Fourth of July, it opens its doors for an afternoon ice cream social that is about as All-American as it gets. Families, neighbors, cold scoops, and a historic porch to enjoy them from. Some traditions are worth holding onto.
5pm | Fireworks and Food Trucks at Barboursville Park, Barboursville, WV
Head to Barboursville Park at 1 Park Road for a full evening of food trucks and fireworks running from 5pm to 11pm. Grab dinner from a local vendor, find your spot on the grass, and watch the sky do its thing. It is the kind of neighborhood Fourth that feels exactly like it should.

Sunday, July 5th: A Moment to Remember
12pm | Huntington Veterans Tribute at the Woody Williams Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, Huntington, WV
The weekend closes with something that matters deeply.
The Woody Williams Gold Star Families Memorial Monument at Huntington's Memorial Park, at the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and 11th Avenue, was unveiled in 2023 on what would have been Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams' 100th birthday. The monument is a tribute to Gold Star families and the loved ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country's freedom.
The Sunday veterans tribute at noon is a meaningful and moving conclusion to a weekend built around celebrating what America means and who made it possible.
1pm | Barboursville Veterans Tribute at the Woody Williams Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, Barboursville, WV
A second tribute follows at 1pm at the Barboursville Woody Williams Gold Star Families Memorial Monument. Whether you attend one or both, this is the moment to pause, reflect, and carry the weight of the weekend's celebration with appropriate gratitude.
